Amazon has introduced its Cloud Player service in Britain, which competes with Apple's iTunes Match and enables people to store their music online and play it anywhere.
The Cloud Player system was rolled out for American customers in July but has today been extended to the UK market.
Users can create an online library to match the music stored on their computer by using Amazon's scan and match technology, which searches a catalogue of 20 million tracks.
All matched songs are automatically stored by Cloud Player in high-quality 256 Kbps audio.
All Amazon MP3 purchases – including music that customers purchased previously – are meanwhile automatically saved to Cloud Player for free. Previously users had to upload each song manually to their Amazon account.
